What is Storkverse?
Storkverse is a collection of Closed Species with an attached art roleplaying game, or ARPG. This means that only official artists can make official Storkverse characters, and that those official characters can be used in the game.
If you're not an artist but would still like to participate, don't worry! You can also use writing to participate and grow your Storkverse characters. That being said, we welcome artists and writers of all skill levels to participate!
Before continuing with this guide, please go and make sure you read all of our rules!

What's the Trait System?
Trait systems are a common sight in Closed Species, and signify how often something occurs within individuals in that species!
For example, as Storkies are based off of Norwegian forest cats, they are primarily long haired cats. Storkies with short fur do exist, but they're a rare sight! To reflect this, short fur is a Legendary trait.
Each species in Storkverse have slightly different trait rarities! You can check the individual species pages for more detailed information.
Storkverse's trait system is designed to be easy to learn and as permissive as possible. That being said, if you're not familiar with closed species and trait systems, it can be difficult to wrap your head around.
Don't be afraid to ask for help!

How do I get a Storkverse design?
Unlike other ARPGs, Storkverse does not require a founder before you're allowed to participate! If you aren't familiar with the concept, don't worry, it essentially means you're allowed to jump right in.
A good rule of thumb is that if a Storkverse adopt has an image with a colored rectangle behind them, they're still up for adoption! This isn't hard and fast, as sometimes artists forget to remove the rectangle.
Storkverse characters can be obtained in several different ways. Many can be taken home for free! This includes raffles, first come first serve (FCFS), write to adopt (WTA) and draw to adopt (DTA).
FCFS means whoever comments to claim the adoptable first gets to take them home! WTA and DTA are essentially competitions, where a piece of writing or art is used as an entry. The artist running the WTA or DTA will set an end time, and pick a winner then.
Don't worry if you participate in a DTA/WTA and don't win! What you created can still be turned in for Copper Coins, and this process will be covered in a later section.
Some Storkverse designs are paid adopts. Payment can vary from artist to artist, but the most common currencies you'll see are C$, USD, Flight Rising currency (FRC), and Storkverse currency such as Copper Coins (CC). Not all artists will accepts all the currencies listed for every adopt.
Sometimes, auctions will be held! A starting bid (SB) will be listed, along with a minimum increase and frequently an auto-buy (AB). The first bid in an auction must be equal to or greater than the SB, and each subsequent bid must be increase by an amount equal to or greater than the minimum increase. An AB is a higher price, that if reached, will win the auction automatically.
Finally, the last thing you'll see are offer to adopt (OTA). OTA is a variety of paid adopts, where the artist may take alternative payment in place of or in addition to currency. The value of offers tends to vary, and at the end of the OTA period, the artist will select which offer is most appealing and finalize the transaction.
If there's not a design up for adoption that you're interested in, you're also allowed to purchase a Make Your Own (MYO) voucher from the shop. For more information on the MYO process, please consult the MYO Guide!

What's a Colony/Mews Tracker?
A Colony Tracker is somewhere to store and manage your Storkverse characters! They, at their most basic form, function as a centralized location to keep track of all the adoptables you have.
They can come in many forms, such as a Toyhou.se folder or a post on the ChickenSmoothie character storage board. You can have as many colony trackers as you'd like, and may divide or sub-divide them however you wish.
The only restriction is that your Colony Tracker cannot be hosted on Google Docs or Google Sheets.

What's a Character Tracker?
Each Storkverse character has a tracker! This is used to track their coat type, markings, and magic. It's important, so don't lose it!
For a public adoption, such as raffles, paid adopts, DTAs, etc. the artist will add you to the design's Oekaki page. After you're added, a "Color Me In!" button should appear. Click that, and do not edit the image. Simply post the color-in, alongside your tracker.
The artist should have some details filled out, but if they don't and you need help doing it, please don't be afraid to ask!
For a private adoption, such as a custom or breeding, you do not need to follow the steps above and create a color-in. Instead, simply post the tracker on the main thread!
Although Colony Trackers can be hosted somewhere other than on ChickenSmoothie, if a Storkverse design originates on-oekaki, their trackers have to be on ChickenSmoothie.
Off-oekaki trackers are permitted for off-oekaki designs, but the tracker location must be completely ChickenSmoothie appropriate.

How do I Play?
After obtaining your first Storkverse character, you can get started! The very first thing you need to do is put your new character in your colony or mews tracker.
Storkverse designs all have a type of magic they're predisposed to, but can't really use until they practice and develop their powers. Their growth is tracked with Magic Points (MP).
MP is bound to the character that earns it, and cannot be transferred between characters. That being said, it's a simple process to start earning MP for your character! All you have to do is pick a prompt and draw or write about them.
Each prompt you complete earns your character 10 MP! You have to assign MP (in batches of 10!) on one type of magic. MP cannot be transferred between magic types once assigned.
Once you've collected enough MP, your Storkverse character can level up! Your character has an overall level, and individual levels for each type of magic they have access to.
Every time your character levels up, you get rewards! These are cashed in at the Storkatten Shop.
You can find information on overall levels here. You can find information on magic levels on each element's page!

What are Copper Coins?
Copper Coins (CC) are Storkverse's primary in-game currency! Once you've earned CC, you can use it to purchase items from the shop or new designs.
CC can be earned by creating art of or writing about your characters! Every piece you do, that is not redeemed for MP, can be redeemed for CC. This includes world building, character development and more.
You can find more information on earning CC here.
